Yeray Sabandar (Blaricum, 1992) is a Dutch photographer with Spanish and Moluccan roots. Based in Amsterdam, the self-taught photographer has made images for fashion, interior and documentary projects , approaching each field with the same raw, intimate style.

His latest project, Gomuta (“memory” in Basque), traces back his Basque roots, documenting the unbridled efforts of the Basque people to keep Jai Alai, a traditional local ball sport, alive. Made during a two-month period in 2023, Gomuta is in dialogue with Sabandar’s own childhood memories in Legoretta, a town in the Goierri region of the province of Gipuzkoa. Through photos that document the people, culture, landscapes and sport, Gomuta serves as a tribute to the resilient spirit of his family’s home region.

As Sabandar's lens traverses between past and present, his photography emerges as a heartfelt homage to the enduring essence of human memory and the timeless impact of shared experiences. For his current ongoing project, Sabandar shifts his focus toward a deeply personal matter through an intimate exploration of his own fatherhood.
